The Qikiqtaaluk Deep Map (Radio)

Radiokomposition, 2014

Radio composition / 5.1 surround & stereo / 49’00.

Commissioned by Deutschlandfunk Kultur Berlin for the program Klangkunst and the West Deutsche Rundfunk (WDR3) for the program Open Sounds.

“The Qikiqtaaluk Deep Map” (2014) is based on field recordings made near the Arctic Circle in Nunavut, Canada in the winter of 2012/2013. Recordings of noise and silence, of acoustic townscapes and barren icy landscapes are mixed with traditional Inuit throat singing and fragments of interviews with local people.
