Balloon Project II "Stille"

Leipzig 2025

Balloon Project II “Stille”

sound installation with 2 grand pianos, 1 large balloon, loudspeakers and transducers.

The installation “Stille” (Silence) was created for the XVIII. Mitteldeutsche Tagung für Musiktheorie und Hörerziehung (The Central German Conference for Music Theory and Listening Education) in Leipzig. The sounds of the installation are taken from the work “Music for Quiet Spaces”, composed for vibraphone and tape delay in 1984. In the installation, these sounds are used to stimulate various resonant bodies: two grand pianos, a large balloon and the installation space itself. Rather than dealing with any kind of “narrative musical content” the work aims to color space with a gradually changing cloud of sound, creating a sense of stillness and quiet.
